Carneys Main Room Friday April 16 9pm - 1am the incredible Monnette Sudler on guitar with Philly Jazz featuring Bootsie Barnes on tenor, Brent White on trombone with Aaron Graves at the keyboards will perform an eclectic blend of jazz, funk and blues. Monnette is a master guitarist, vocalist, composer and drummer and has performed with jazz greats including Hugh Masekela, Gerald Veasley, Philly Joe Jones, Grover Washington Jr. to name a few.
Monnette has been offering beginning and advanced guitar workshops at the festival for many years and also performing at the Saturday jams.
Monnette will be joined by the one and only Bootsie Barnes on tenor. Bootsie is no stranger to Cape May Jazz having performed many times as a headliner and featured at the jams. His exciting style exemplified the urban hard-bop groove. He has toured, performed and recorded with all the great organists including Shirley Scott, Jimmy Smith, Jimmy McGriff, Jack McDuff and Charles Earland. His smooth and distinct sound is easily recognizable whether sofly caressing a ballad or swinging hard. Jazz Times sums up his solos "...plays tenor saxophone with a self-assured flair and georgeous depth...and plays in a classic style reminiscent of Gene Ammons and Hank Mobley".
Trombonist Steve Turre toured with Ray Charles and Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers before forming many of his own groups, the most well-known "Sanctified Shells" which utilizes the seashell as an instrument in the horn section.
Aaron Graves on keys is no stranger to the festival having performed with Little Jimmy Scott, Oscar Brown, Jr., and Joanna Pascale, at the memorial for Oscar Brown Jr.and Tim Eyermann and at the jams. |
