One of our favorite tenor/alto sax and flute players seen at the jams for a number of festivals will be in the Boiler Room with Abstract Truth Saturday night. Jesse began his jazz career performing with Latin percussionist Edgardo Cintron and made his recording debut as a leader with Soy Califa. He is a hard bopper with a defnite passion for Latin jazz. Afro-Cuban elements are a high priority as he often blends Afro-Cuban and Brazilian elements to his music.
His band weaves jazz with soul, R&B, African and Latin rhythms, gospel, blues and funk which creates a rich, vibrant and complex melodic and harmonic world echoing everything from straight ahead jazz to rock and creates a sound that is at once fresh and familiar honoring the masters who came before them while creating a sound all their own. They take the musical tradition they inherited from past masters and move forward adding their own unique voice to this timeless lineage. |
